Report: Apple TV 4 Not Ready For WWDC 2015 Release

After months of speculation the Apple TV may not be getting a refresh at next week’s WWDCafter all, according to two different reports today.
Apple kicks its Worldwide Developers Conference off with an opening keynote this coming Monday, with the general concesus having a new Apple TV 4 likely to be announced during the event. Or at least, that was what we all thought. Turns out, that’s not going to happen after all.

As reports begin to roll in from the likes of Re/code and The New York Times, it is becoming increasingly clear that the Apple TV will not in fact get a much needed refresh next week after Apple decided to pull it as recently as last month.
Writing for The New York Times, Brian X. Chen claims that Apple decided against launching a new Apple TV during the big WWDC keynote due to it simply not being ready. With Apple having previously received stick for having software out in the wild that is less than solid and stable, Apple may have decided to err on the side of caution this time around.
According to Chen, Apple “planned as recently as mid-May to use the event to spotlight new Apple TV hardware, along with an improved remote control and a tool kit for developers to make apps for the entertainment device,” but decided against such plans dispite the Apple TV being in desperate need of an update. Apple last launched a new Apple TV back in 2012, and the subsequent years of seeming neglect have left the device looking long in the tooth while being overtaken in both features and usability by the likes of Amazon’s Fire Stick.
If Apple did indeed decide against launching a new Apple TV at WWDC then when will it arrive? While we don’t yet know the answer to that question, we can only hope it won’t be too long before we can finally retire the Apple TV as we know it.

There are a bunch of announcements we are expecting next Monday, with iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 making the headlines to name a few. If there is any sort of Apple TV announcement, regardless it being hardware or software, we’ll definitely have it covered.
